Acne Scarring

You're finally free of acne, but you're left with scarring. As frustrating as it can be, it can be healed!

Acne scars can take the form of discolouration, such as post inflammatory erythema (PIE), post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), or indentations in the skin, such as icepick, rolling, or boxcar scars. Acne scars can also appear as raised bumps in the skin, hypertrophic scars or keloids.

Because the skin is so complex everyone experiences different types of acne scarring. I've personally experienced all three of these acne scars, but fortunately, acne scarring can be healed effectively with the right products and treatments.

  • PIE

    (post inflammatory erythema)

    - Smooth, red patches

    - Occurs when there is inflammation or trauma in the skin

    - Result of dilated blood vessels

    - More common in lighter skin tones

  • PIH

    (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation)

    - Smooth, brown patches

    - Occurs when there is inflammation or trauma in the skin

    - Result of overproduction of melanin or abnormal melanin dispersion

    - More common in darker skin tones

  • Atrophic

    (ice pick, rolling, boxcar scars)

    - Uneven, indented texture

    - Occurs when there is inflammation or trauma in the skin

    - Result of the inability to regenerate tissue & insignificant collagen production

    - Common in all skin tones

Scarring Treatment Options:

Growth Factor Microneedling

The combination of the needles' mechanism of action and topically applied bone marrow stem cell growth factors and cytokines work to amplify the message between the skin cells, instructing them to heal, regenerate, produce collagen, and reduce inflammation, unlike any other micro-needling treatment.

Scarring Treatment Options:

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that involves applying a chemical solution to the skin, causing it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. This process removes the outermost layers of dead and damaged skin cells, revealing a new, smoother, and more youthful layer of skin underneath.
